Nobody enjoys the process of shifting. All the packing, unpacking and heavy lifting involved, make it a burdensome task. Even making preparations to move can be a hassle, for instance in having to look for boxes to pack your belongings into. Buying brand new boxes is quite a waste of money, considering that you are only going to need them to transport your stuff. The better, more economical option would be to get used moving boxes. Here are some ideas on where you can find them.

A good place to start the search would be at your local supermarket. These stores tend to receive their products packed in boxes, so there is bound to be a vast supply waiting to be reused. You can ask the store manager or make arrangements with the delivery staff to provide you with some.

Electrical goods outlets are another possible source. These stores may have boxes left over from display pieces or damaged products. If you are up for a bit of excitement, you can also consider a bout of dumpster diving. Digging through the trash is not as nasty as it seems; the recyclables such as cardboard boxes are usually kept separately from the rest of the rubbish.

If you are enlisting the services of a moving company, you might be able to get a cheaper rate through them. Alternatively, there are websites that sell both new and old moving boxes. These can be purchased individually or at a discount if you buy them as a set. Some innovative websites also allow you to get them for free, by providing you with a list of people in your area who want to get rid of their boxes.

Most stores and households have their recyclable items taken to a recycling plant. This makes it another option on your source list. You can call your local recycling plant to check if they have boxes. They might allow you to take them for free or for a small fee.

When you are out searching for boxes, be sure to check for potential sources closest to you. Check with your friends or neighbors if any of them have used moving boxes to spare. Your office could also have some to supply. Check with the shipping division or simply take leftovers from the storage room or make use of photocopy paper boxes that are usually thrown away. Of course, be sure to clear it with your boss first.

A good plan would be to invest in new boxes for items that are going to remain in storage; for instance winter wear or fine dining sets that you do not use often. Instead of the run of the mill cardboard boxes, you might want to think about investing in more durable plastic ones, as these make better long term storage devices.

These tips should help you find used moving boxes to make your big move that much easier. Once you are done with them, be sure to pass them on so you can help someone one else out. You could also pass on some of these tips!

Need boxes for moving? Why not try using recycled boxes San Antonio, or even used shipping boxes! They’re much cheaper, and much more environmentally friendly too.

Wood Burning Stove Installation

Did you know that you can save a fortune in energy costs with a wood burning stove and that research shows that it is considerably less harmful to the environment than conventional oil or gas heating? In addition, gas and oil are not renewable sources, whereas more trees are being planted all the time to replace those felled. So how do you install one of these in your house or apartment?

Before you proceed be aware that a wood burning stove is little different to a small furnace so check with your household insurer that they are happy for you to install one. Usually they are ok with the idea if you can show evidence that the installation was done by a certified professional - A DIY installation is more likely to result in a house fire.

The next step is to calculate the size of wood burner you should install. This is part science and part experience and you would be best advised to speak to a professional. Ask them to pay you a visit so they can see what your requirements are and what the situation is so they can help you choose the right burner.

As well as the stove itself, the flue is a critical part of the overall installation. Wood burners require a flue lined with material specifically designed for burning wood. If you have an existing chimney then one option is to fit this with a liner suitable for wood burning, otherwise you will have to have a purpose made flue pipe installed.

Following installation of the burner itself you should tidy around and be certain to clear any flammable items from proximity to the burner. You should find that the manufacturer stipulates what kind of clearance to maintain around the stove. Also take steps to ensure that small children and animals are kept away from the stove to avoid the risk of serious burns.

During normal operation wood stoves need to be regularly cleaned and maintained in good working order. If you are familiar with cleaning a normal fireplace chimney this will be quite familiar. It is important to remove the build up of creosote especially since it can reduce the efficiency of the system and eventually damage the flue (it also smells somewhat if left un-cleaned).

An annual major clean carried out by a chimney sweep should alleviate the need to repair your stove. Some products such as the well known Creosote Sweeping Log can help the cause but are ultimately no substitute for having your wood burning stove properly cleaned annually.

To conclude, your best course of action when installing a wood burner is to get professional help on board from the outset. A professionally installed wood stove is both environmentally friendly and a big money saver too.

Countless attractive plants can be kept indoors the entire year. Hence why are we in spite of everything buying so many cut flowers? One of the most amorous flowers is considered to be the rose, yet everyday we cut down millions of them and even more so around Valentines day. Countless garden centre sell large ranges of small roses in pots that can be kept at home around the year and if you are lucky they might come into flower several times a year. One can always consider the orchid.

This is a massive species of flowers and though they can be testing to keep there are loads of types currently easily available which are effortless to care for, needing minimum watering with plenty of bright but not direct sunlight. So with some of the most amazing flowers available to keep inside why are we not really utilizing them? Below are three reasons why indoor flowering plants make a better gift than a bouquet of flowers.

Below there are 3 good points why indoor flowering plants will make a longer lasting and superior present than a bouquet of flowers.

1.A gift which will last longer? Even though we do not desire to mess up our friends homes, a flowering house plant will decorate a window sill or table for a lot longer than a bunch of flowers.

2.Change the way we think? we are all conscious that the global environment needs our consideration. If you give a bouquet of flowers, they are typically enclosed in paper or plastic, hence generating more domestic litter. Even if the plant dies, the pot can be used again and again.

3.Giving a good example to your children - Growing a plant can help center your child’s minds on caring for and nuturing something of beauty.

Best of all it encouraged an appreciation in our children for living things. When I knew that we were going to move last time, my four year old planted some seeds, which had sprouted by the time we left, to give to his friends as a going away present. Much better than another plastic toy.

Generating Electricity with Windmills

One of the most efficient sources of energy that is available today is windmill electricity. We are working towards a greener planet and better ways to generate electricity to supply our needs and demands. Electrical costs continue to rise because the demands are increasing. Windmill electricity is a sensible alternative to traditional sources of electricity.

Although the basic structural make up of the windmill design has not changed much over the years, it has been scaled down quite a bit in size so that it is viable for home use. A windmill has three large blades on a long vertical shaft. Wind turns the blades and those power generators that in turn produce electricity.

The best efficient, renewable and inexpensive power source is windmill electricity. One small wind turbine, designed with home use in mind, can produce about ten kilowatts of electricity.

The greatest advantage of windmill electricity is that it is free. The wind is a naturally occurring resource which can be harnessed and utilized as an alternative to the cost of electrical bills. The ever expanding population continues to make demands on our limited electrical energy resources. This demand is what causes the cost of electricity to rise exponentially each and every year.

An average household consumes around 800 kwh of electricity per month. If you were to buy a commercial wind turbine to generate windmill electricity, it could cost you up to $10,000.00 for one single unit. This is out of the reach of many people. It is possible to build your own turbines to produce windmill electricity. There are many reasonably priced guides.

The components that comprise a basic wind turbine including the blades or turbine, the tower on which they are mounted, a charge controller, deep cycle batteries and a power inverter that converts the power produced to a electrical current.

If you look into it, you may find that your local or federal government has a program to give you a cash back incentive if you are thinking of moving towards self sufficiency with respect to your household electrical needs. It is entirely possible that once you start generating your own electrical power, that you over produce and then put power back into the “grid”. If this happens, you will find that your electrical company will pay you money.

A single wind turbine has a life span of about 20 years. It matters little whether you build your own wind turbines or purchase commercial ones, you are still making a very good investment. As our reliance on electrical utilities increases, we need to start looking at becoming more self sufficient.

Having your own residential windmills can save lots on your power bill. I recommend that you check out the tips at this following blog : windmill electricity

Wind Generator And Solar Hybrid Off Grid System - How Much Energy Can A Windmill Produce?

Each month the cost of utility companies seems to go up. If the rates have not been raised, then the fees have been. Worse still, there are new fees created. If you’re feeling as though you’ve had enough and are wanting to consider alternatives, think about what it would take to build wind and solar hybrid off grid system. It is not an easy road to go down, but if you are committed to doing it, it can be very rewarding.

There is no doubt that there is serious planning involved with this. You have to be very conscientious about the amount of energy you and your family consume. There is no back up with this; you use only what you produce on your own. Do not try this as a way to simply lower your costs, because it will not work out of you. True dedication is required in order to make this work.

The words custom design are a given in this situation. You need to consider far more than just the size of your home. You also need to examine your current levels of energy consumption. You should be able to find this on your billing statement if you are currently connected with an energy utility. Any quote that you get for your system will be tailored to meet your needs.

Many fear that they will not be able to use normal appliances anymore. You can still use them, just as you would have before, however you will want to update as many of them as possible. The more energy conservative they are the better.

Since these are hybrid systems and do not rely on a single form of energy, they can be used in any climate. In a sunny climate the solar aspect will provide more of the energy for your home, in other climates the wind generator will do the bulk of the work.

When trying to make this decision there is certainly many aspects to consider. In the end, by going this route you will have no regrets at all. You can feel good about having a system devoted to energy consumption, and also in the fact that you are providing for yourself.

The topic on energy has sparked so many debates within the recent years.

Some of us may assume that electric companies can still bear the brunt of supplying households with energy for plenty of years to come. But the truth of the matter is that we have to stop being so dependent on non-renewable sources of energy.

The traditional means of generating electricity is steadily becoming outdated and depleted. Fossil fuels that are burned to generate energy will be expected to run out soon.

And the prices of gas just keep skyrocketing with the mismatch in its supply and demand. This is why more people are turning to renewable sources of energy to power their homes.

One very obvious reason for why some people want to go green is because the system basically pays itself off within a few years because what you spend for the system, you earn back by losing the energy bills.

The idea of people saving more money by using renewable sources of energy is enough to lure people to adapting this system. But how come still a large number of homeowners are reluctant to go green?

This is primarily because setting up renewable energy systems requires a huge investment.

However, Power for Home is an e-book that teaches homeowners to install renewable energy systems themselves for just $200.

You will have to pick the most appropriate system to install. If your place is always sunny, solar panels will work great. If you live in a place that isn’t too sunny, you can install windmills instead.

This e-book was written by a professional electrician who knows the ins and outs of installing renewable energy systems.

The thing about Power for Home is that if you do not find anything useful with the e-book, you can have a full refund within 60 days of purchasing the e-book.

There is some debate among prospective and existing homeowners about the cost of residential solar power. Most feel a residential solar power system is too expensive for an average homeowner. And they also share the same feeling that, in earnest, solar power is a green energy solution and can combat global warming. However the cost seems to thwart any thought of having solar power for residential use. A few that know about do-it-yourself systems seem to be dragged into the notion that DIY solar power products are a fraud and a scam. As a word of caution, due diligence must be exercised before anyone can deem anything a scam or fraud because my failures are not necessarily your failures. Some most of the homeowners seem to be misled into believing that residential solar is expensive and it cannot be built from scratch as a DIY project.

Become A Residential Solar Power Expert with DIY

Amidst the scorn on residential solar power do-it-yourself products there is lot you can learn to make you an expert on how to go green using solar power or wind energy. Some people will want you to believe that DIY products don’t work because they didn’t work for them, making their mishap gospel to the masses. This failure or outburst may obstruct green energy aspirants from seeing these products through the eyes of wanting to learn. Though some products might have controversial headlines like ‘build a solar panel for under $100′ and this may not be achievable depending on what part of the world you are, it would be misleading to think you only learn how to build a solar panel from scratch. There is more… Like how to save money by first making your home energy efficient, how to calculate your energy needs to determine the size of the system you need, how to mount your solar panels plus more. No 2 residential solar power systems are the same or equal especially if they were designed and built to meet the energy demands of a household. It is almost impossible to find 2 households that use the same amount of power the same way. Some households might use more power on heating water, swimming pool or for ventilation. Some might have a lot electrical appliances or use appliances that are not energy efficient.

There are companies that manufacture solar products for all roof types and materials like asphalt, metal, concrete, clay, slate, membrane, tar, etc that fit directly to the roof the same way as normal material. There are systems that come complete with modules, power electronics, plug and play wiring, mounting kits, power meter to monitor performance. Some companies also supply residential solar power kits or prepackaged systems designed that easily integrate into existing buildings or ground mounted structures.

Solar Energy - Uses of Home Solar Power Systems

Some people believe that residential solar power systems are eventually going to substitute fossil-fuel based energy sources as the method that a lot of people power their houses. This free and never-ending way to create power is a much better method to create electricity for your home, and is cheaper than ever.

Thus, what is the most crucial thing that you must know about residential solar power systems?

Can you imagine that there’s a power source in existence that is powerful enough that the quantity of energy that’s absorbed into the earth, sea, as well as atmosphere each hour is greater than the entire level of energy that mankind used in the whole year of 2002. That’s what MIT’s publication Powering the Planet: Chemical Challenges in Solar Energy Utilization says. The energy that the earth absorbs comes available as heat and light, and the introduction of residential solar power systems means that the average citizen and homeowner are now able to put that power to use!

That said, the main factor you have to know about residential solar power systems is that you can keep on making electricity provided that the sun keeps on shining. Even if everyone had one of these wonderful systems, you wouldn’t run out of energy. These types of systems usually are not available to homeowners in the form of photovoltaic solar cells, which transform sun energy into electricity. The solar cells that a majority of people utilize for their at-home solar power systems are arranged into a solar panel.

These kinds of solar powers are installed in various ways in accordance to the area in that the homeowner lives as well as where the actual solar panels are installed on the home. Positioning solar cells in an area in which they will receive the most exposure to the sun and angling them in a way which they obtain the best exposure will guarantee the most quantity of electrical energy going into the house. This is known as concentrated solar collectors. Non concentrated solar collectors are usually collectors that are positioned in places with much less direct sunlight, and can absorb solar power from direct angles, as well as reflecting angles.

Solar powered systems could both heat the house and supply electrical energy for the home. You can also use them to heat your swimming pool!

There are so many benefits, and so few drawbacks, to getting a solar power system for your home which any other sources of energy seem to be like a bad choice. Thus, why haven’t more individuals been using them? Especially right now, in a world where the weather is actually changing rapidly, and the environment is more polluted than ever, and fossil fuels are starting to cost an arm and a leg?

Definitely, many people are nervous with regards to not having ample sunlight. If the sun’s not out, then your solar panels can’t collect energy. It is not always sunny. And also, despite the fact that fossil fuels have gotten far more expensive recently, these fuels are still more affordable as compared to the money you will pay for solar powers.

And last of all, if you do live in a sunny enough area, then you definately might even be able to use your home solar power systems to produce excess energy, that you may then sell back to your power company because you would not be able to utilize it.

Daily, the huge benefits of solar energy systems for the household are getting increasingly more evident. Our society has become more and more energy conscious every single day also. Despite the fact that fossil fuels continue to be obtainable, solar power is free and also obtainable so long as the sun is out, and the production of it can’t be controlled by companies or the government.

Solar energy systems for the home are a power source which is environmentally friendly, and will sooner or later end up being more affordable as much more people start wanting to use it. While fossil fuels is only going to get more costly so long as people continue getting it. These home systems can save you a lot of money when it comes to conditioning your house’s air.

There are also tax breaks in a few states or countries for people who possess such systems for their residences. These types of tax breaks alone could make it simpler for you to afford a system for your residence.

Take advantage of the awesome new solar technology offered to you right now simply by installing a solar power system in your home. You’ll be happy you did.

Chinese Lunar Calendar

Posted on March 6, 2010
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment

Prior to their implementation of the Western solar calendar system, the Chinese almost exclusively followed their own lunar calendar for determining the times of planting and harvesting and festival days. Although people in China today use the Western calendar for almost all business, governmental and practical matters of daily life, the old system still serves as the basis for working out many seasonal holidays. This coexistence of two calendar systems has long been accepted by the people of China.

However, this does not only happen in China, it also occurs in most other Eastern countries, like Thailand, and most Arabic countries.

A lunar month is determined by measuring the period of time needed for the moon to complete its full cycle of 29 and a half days, a standard that makes the lunar year a full eleven days shorter than its solar counterpart. This difference is corrected every 19 years by the addition of seven lunar months.

The 12 lunar months are further divided into 24 solar divisions characterized by the four seasons and times of heat and cold, all of which bear a close relationship to the annual cycle of agricultural work.

The Chinese calendar - very much like the Hebrew calendar- is a combination of the solar and lunar calendars in that it strives to have its years concur with the tropical year and its months agree with the synodic months. It is not surprising that a few similarities exist between the Chinese and the Hebrew calendar.

For example, an average year has 12 months, a leap year has 13 months. An ordinary year has 353, 354, or 355 days, a leap year has 383, 384, or 385 days. When working out what a Chinese year will be like, one needs to make a couple of astronomical calculations.

First of all, you have to work out the dates for the new moons. In these instances, a new Moon is the completely black Moon (that is to say, when the Moon is in conjunction with the Sun), not the first visible crescent, as is used by the Islamic and Hebrew calendars. The date of a new moon is then the first day of a new month.

The reason why the majority of countries which had their own calendars had to dump them in favour of the Western, Julian calendar that we use today, is business. First the British and then the Americans ran international business and they used the Julian calendar.Anyone who wanted to work with them had to follow suit. This is why national policy often varies from local custom in Third World countries.

The government desires to deal on the International markets, but the ordinary family in the country can not. So, the government adopted the Julian calendar but the people only pay lip service to it. I live in Thailand and people here do not even use the 24 hour day divided into two halves. Their day has four sections of six hours each and the first part starts at 6AM, not midnight. Therefore, they have four 4 o’clocks a day, for example but no 7 o’clocks. They are also 543 years ahead of us, although this is more common, for example in Muslim countries.
